The Gulf Economist is an academic journal published by the Center for Basra and Arab Gulf Studies at the University of Basrah, Iraq. Established in 1979, the journal focuses on economic and related issues concerning Iraq, the Arabian Gulf, and the Arabian Peninsula.

The journal welcomes original theoretical and empirical research in economics, macroeconomics, economic development, monetary and fiscal policy, international trade, finance, banking, management, accounting, and statistics.
