Abstract

This research aims to identify the potential of solar energy in Iraq and the extent of its exploitation due to its non-causing environmental pollution and achieving sustainable development goals, as its use leads to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, and solar energy is one of the most important sources of renewable energy that humanity relies on to meet its growing energy needs, as Iraq witnesses the presence of great potential for solar energy throughout the year, as it enjoys a dry and sunny desert climate, and solar energy has witnessed a remarkable  development in Iraq. As the Iraqi government works to diversify energy sources and rely more on renewable energy, solar energy is an important option in this context. Many large solar energy projects have been established in Iraq in recent years. The use of renewable energy sources helps reduce dependence on oil and natural gas, which pollute the environment. The research also reached a number of conclusions, including that solar energy is one of the most important sources of clean renewable energy, as it relies on exploiting sunlight to generate electricity. Solar energy is renewable and clean, and does not produce any harmful emissions. Its production cost is also low compared to fossil fuel sources. Therefore, solar energy is promising to cover the world's growing electricity needs in a clean and sustainable manner. In addition, investing in solar energy projects can support the national economy and enhance energy independence for countries, especially in developing countries that suffer from energy and electricity shortages, as small and medium-sized solar projects can provide new job opportunities and support economic growth.
